Arts Development Programmes

Local authorities may run artistic residencies, youth projects, and arts and wellbeing programmes to increase participation in, and appreciation of, all art forms.

Carlow County Council Arts Service have led and developed a Writer in Residence Programme in partnership with the Arts Council of Ireland/Carlow County Library Services and Carlow College.  Previous writers in Carlow have included writer Peter Murphy, Screenwriter, Oonagh Kearney, Playwright, Darren Donohue, Spoken Word Artist Colm Keegan, Poet, Jessica Traynor, Memoir Writer Arnold Thomas Fanning, Song Writers Mick Hanly and Fiach Moriarty and Screenwriter Marc-Ivan O’Gorman.   Other writers have included Sean Hardie, Playwright Bryan Delaney and John Mackenna. 

This programme will be developed over the Autumn 2023 and advertised.

Carlow County Council Arts Service initiated Take A Part Carlow which is a socially engaged arts initiative taking place in the Tullow Road area of Carlow Town.

Carlow County Council Arts Service initiated and manages Creative Places Bagenalstown, with coordination of this project by Louise Osborne who can be contacted @ losborne@carlowcoco.ie.  Our approach is socially engaging, rooted in community and inclusive.

Carlow County Council Arts Service initiated County Carlow Youth Theatre which can be found on Facebook and is resident in VISUAL Carlow.

Carlow County Council Arts Service led and managed the Live and Local Programme for local musicians since its inception during Covid, the Arts Service works in partnership with local musician promoters and musicians to showcase and support the very best local emerging and professional musicians.  Live and Local ownership is with the local musician community and in partnership with Carlow Arts Festival.

Carlow County Council Arts Service works in partnership with Mobile Music Machine to deliver the very best in music to nursing homes throughout the county.
