This Friday 31st May 2024 & Saturday 1st June 2024, Lower Tullow Street is due come alive with the vibrant sights and sounds of Streetfest, promising an unforgettable experience for all who attend.
Organised by Carlow County Council with the support of stakeholders and local businesses, Streetfest promises an enticing array of activities and entertainment suitable for all ages, making it the quintessential outing for families, friends, and neighbours alike. Streetfest also serves as a pilot project for the pedestrianisation of Lower Tullow Street, aiming to enhance the shopping experience and create an unforgettable atmosphere.
On Friday as the weekend kicks off, Carlow will be buzzing with anticipation. The air will be filled with the energetic tunes of KCLR, setting the stage for an evening of lively entertainment. On Tullow Street, the Moinser Guesto and Street Walkers will be captivating audiences with their unique performances, drawing crowds with their mesmerizing acts.
Strolling through the Tullow Street Craft Village, visitors will be delighted by the array of artisanal products on display. From handcrafted jewellery to unique home decor, there is something for every taste and interest.
The enigmatic Monsieur Gusto will take centre stage with his circus shows, promising jaw-dropping stunts and a whirlwind of excitement. Children and adults alike will be spellbound by his daring feats and whimsical antics.
As the day unfolds, the Carlow County Council - Busking Competition will highlight the town’s hidden talents. Local musicians and performers will compete for the top prize, filling the streets with music and entertainment that will resonate through the night.
Streetfest continues on Saturday with early risers will be greeted by beloved kids' characters on the streets. Coco Melon and Captain America will be wandering through the crowds, posing for photos, and sharing smiles with their young fans from 11am to 1pm & 2pm to 4pm.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, the Wobbly Circus will introduce an array of quirky street characters. These playful performers will interact with visitors, bringing laughter and joy wherever they go.
At 2:00 PM and 3:30 PM, the Wobbly Circus will again dazzle the crowd with their circus and juggling acts, featuring a stilt walker who will tower above the audience, performing tricks that defy gravity.
Speaking about the project, Cllr. Andrea Dalton, Cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council said at the core of Streetfest is supporting our business community “Supporting local businesses is vital to the strength and resilience of our community. When you shop local, you are not just buying a product; you're investing in your neighbours, creating jobs, and keeping our local economy vibrant and diverse”.
The Carlow Co. Co. Busking Competition will continue, giving more local talents the chance to shine. Meanwhile, children will be enchanted by the face painters and balloon modellers from Facepainting.ie, transforming the little ones into their favourite animals or superheroes.
Tullow Street Craft Village will once again be open, offering another opportunity to find unique treasures and gifts. The atmosphere will be further enlivened by the beats and live broadcasts of Beat FM, ensuring the energy stays high throughout the day.
Welcoming the activities for this weekend , Cllr. Tom O’Neill , Mayor of Carlow said “the Streetfest programme is all about families and in our town, the strength of our community lies in the close-knit bonds of our families and their link to the traditional Town centre.” Tom continued “families are the backbone of our local economy and the heart of our shared traditions, and we know that supporting one another which ensures that our town remains a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family."
