Carlow County Council Weather Warning & Advisory 10th January 2025

Carlow County Council have attended an online National Co-ordination meeting with the National Directorate for Fire & Emergency Management and Met Éireann this morning, subsequently Carlow County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team have met again and the Severe Weather Response Plan has been now been stood down as we come to the end of this period of severe weather.  

The Carlow County Council Severe Weather Event Control Centre has now been stood down and any communications needed with Carlow Co Co should be through the normal means Contact Us | Carlow Co Co 

Any urgent need to contact Carlow County Council staff during out of office hours must be made through the normal out of hours assistance phone number 059 9170300.

All Met Éireann Weather Warnings have now expired for Co Carlow for this period of Severe Weather.

Updated public safety messaging:

  • Snow and Ice may be slow to thaw from today and over the weekend especially in elevated areas of County Carlow. Road users should drive with extra care and adjust driver behaviour according to local road conditions.  Additional surface water may be present throughout the thaw from today and over the weekend.  Road users should drive with extra care and adjust driver behaviour according to local road conditions.
  • Continue to take extra care and due diligence while walking: footpaths, Ice may be slow to thaw from today and over the weekend especially those at elevated areas of County Carlow, even those which have been cleared and/or salted can be extremely hazardous/slippery due to ice.
  • Property owners should take measures to assess their water pipes for any leaks following this severe weather event https://www.water.ie/help/supply/winterproofing#:~:text=Leave%20heating%20on%20for%20longer,freezing%20in%20the%20cold%20weather.  
  • Public parks; Carlow Town Park, Ducketts Grove and Oak Park will reopen from tomorrow Saturday 11/01/25
  • Loose salt is still available for collection by the Public from the following locations: (A bag or container will need to be brought to these locations as the salt is loose):
    • Tullow Recycling Centre
    • Bagenalstown Fire Station
    • Kearnanstown Recycling centre Carlow
    • Ballinabranagh
    • Old Leighlin
    • Bilboa
