National Public Libraries Open Day promotes the role of public libraries in Irish society and raises awareness of the broad range of services they provide. The Day is taking place Saturday, 28th September, with 300+ libraries across Ireland marking it through activities, events and celebrations. 

To coincide with the Day, the Take a Closer Look campaign is encouraging people to take a closer look at the wide-ranging services open to them through their libraries, with the vast majority freely available.  

Join renowned environmentalist and RTÉ personality Éanna Ní Lamhna for a walk that’s as enlightening as it is enjoyable. With her trademark wit and wisdom, Éanna guides you through the diverse habitats of the Blackstairs Mountains, sharing fascinating insights into the natural world. This walk offers a unique opportunity to explore everything from conifer plantations and upland bogs to hedgerows and scrub, each a distinct wildlife habitat.

Carlow County Council, in association with Sonix Entertainment Ltd, is thrilled to announce the Carlow Carnival, set to take place from Monday 19th to Friday 23rd August 2024 at The Exchange in Potato Market, Carlow Town Centre. Get ready for an electrifying and unforgettable weekend as Carlow County Council, backed by local businesses and stakeholders, proudly announces the grand finale of the Tullow Street Streetfest Programme! This vibrant event promises a dazzling array of activities and entertainment for all ages, making it the perfect outing for families, friends, and neighbours alike. As a pilot project for the pedestrianisation of Lower Tullow Street, Streetfest has been enhancing the shopping experience and creating an extraordinary atmosphere since April 5, 2024.

The Minister for Rural and Community Development has approved an allocation of €30,000 to complete a Town Centre First Plan for Muinebheag, Co. Carlow.  Town Centre First aims to create town centres that function as viable, vibrant and attractive locations for people to live, work and visit, while also functioning as the service, social, cultural and recreational hub for the local community.
